For those of you who don't know, Forsyth-Edwards Notation (FEN) is a standard one-line text format used to describe a specific chess position.

It started as a requirement as I needed an app to generate these notations because me and my friends use to challenge each other to play from a particular position (use of ChatGPT or Gemini wasn't mainstream back then).

How it works

The image is divided into equal 8×8 gird and each square is passed through a neural-netowork that scans the individual pixels and checks which piece (if any) is present in that square.
