Clipvara: an AI video editor for Mac that shows every edit it makes

ai electron python claude ffmpeg macos video editing ollama react

Clipvara is a Mac app that records, edits and finishes videos, built by an educator who got tired of spending hours editing every class recording.

Record your screen or import footage, press Auto edit, and Clipvara works through the edit one step at a time: noise cleanup, silence cuts, transitions, word-by-word karaoke captions, titles, graphics, music, colour grade and loudness. Each step appears as a card you can check, change or undo, so the AI never makes a decision you can't see. You can then fine-tune every cut on Clipvara's own timeline and render to 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or any ratio up to 4K.

What's inside:

- Electron + React editor on a Python engine (FFmpeg, OpenCV, Whisper speech-to-text)

- AI of your choice: free and private on your Mac with Ollama (local Qwen models), or Claude with your own API key

- An Assistant you talk to in plain words. It works through tool calls, and every change it makes is shown

- Podcast mode (1-3 cameras with face framing) and AI-picked reels from long videos

- Captions in Bengali, Hindi and English, including code-mixed speech

- Screen recorder with auto-zoom, cursor effects and backgrounds

- Ships as one DMG with its own bundled Python and LGPL FFmpeg, so there's nothing else to install
