The Blink Typing: Eye-Blink Communication System provides a powerful communication medium for individuals affected by paralysis, motor neuron disease (MND), ALS, or other severe physical impairments. Many such individuals are cognitively active but unable to speak or move, which severely limits their independence and social interaction.
Our system allows users to communicate using only their eye blinks, eliminating the need for voice, touch, or costly medical equipment. With a standard webcam and AI-based eye-tracking, the userβs blinks are translated into text and speech in real time β restoring their ability to express thoughts and emotions freely.
The project is designed to be:
-
𧩠Low-cost: Uses open-source libraries like OpenCV and MediaPipe.
-
βοΈ Accessible: Runs on normal laptops or PCs without additional sensors.
-
π‘ Non-invasive: Requires no physical contact with the user.
-
π€ Inclusive: Helps differently-abled individuals regain independence and confidence.
Beyond healthcare, Blink Typing can inspire applications in gesture-based control, human-computer interaction, and AI-driven assistive technologies.
By combining Python, OpenCV, MediaPipe, and pyttsx3, it demonstrates how accessible AI can empower communication for all β giving a voice to those who cannot speak.
