Millions of people in rural and semi-urban India lack access to timely healthcare due to a shortage of doctors, poor infrastructure, and geographical limitations. As a result, minor symptoms often go unchecked until they develop into severe conditions, increasing treatment costs and hospital load. Moreover, rural patients struggle with medical literacy, medication adherence, and finding the right healthcare facility nearby. There is a pressing need for an intelligent, accessible, and multilingual solution that can guide patients in recognizing symptoms, managing basic health routines, and connecting them with certified medical professionals when required. An AI-driven health companion can bridge this gap by offering personalized health assistance, early diagnosis suggestions, and seamless access to nearby clinics — empowering individuals with timely healthcare awareness and reducing preventable hospitalizations.
MediAssist is an AI-powered healthcare assistant designed to provide instant medical guidance and personalized support for rural patients.
Using Gemini API’s Natural Language Processing, the chatbot allows users to describe their symptoms in simple language and receive probable diagnosis suggestions, home remedies, and next-step advice. It further assists users by maintaining medicine reminders and prescription tracking, ensuring better adherence to ongoing treatments.
The system is built on Google Cloud Functions with Firestore as the database, ensuring scalability and real-time data management. Through Google Maps API integration, MediAssist can locate and connect patients to the nearest clinics or doctors for teleconsultation.
