About the Build

This project is a proactive ride-safety system designed to improve the safety of passengers, especially women, during ride-sharing journeys. Unlike traditional safety features like in-app panic buttons or emergency calls, which only work after a threat has occurred, this system continuously monitors a ride in real-time to detect unusual or potentially dangerous situations. It does this by analyzing the driver’s route, speed, direction, and behavior patterns, comparing them against safe and expected paths, and flagging deviations that could indicate risky intent.

Why We Built It

Women often realize they are in danger too late, sometimes after the driver has taken secluded routes or deviated significantly from the expected path. Existing solutions are reactive, and in high-stress scenarios, passengers may not have the time or presence of mind to press a panic button. Our goal was to shift safety from reactive to proactive, giving passengers early warnings so they can respond in time. The system also provides peace of mind during rides, encourages safer driving practices, and empowers users with more control over their travel safety.

How It Can Be Useful to Others

  • For passengers: Provides early alerts if a ride is going off the expected safe route, helping them avoid dangerous situations before they escalate.

  • For ride-share platforms: Can be integrated to enhance platform safety features, improve trust, and reduce liability in case of incidents.

  • For guardians or family members: Allows real-time monitoring and notifications, so someone trusted is always aware of the passenger’s ride safety.

  • For urban safety and research: Aggregated anonymous ride data could help identify unsafe routes or patterns in city travel, aiding in urban planning and public safety improvements.

In short, this build is not just a safety app, it is a behavior-aware, intelligent ride-monitoring system designed to prevent incidents rather than just react to them, making ride-sharing safer, smarter, and more reliable for everyone.
