Touchless Computer Control for Hospitals/Factories

opencv buildathon hackathon airtificialintelligence userinterface

This project is a Touchless Computer Control System that allows users to operate a computer using hand gestures instead of touching a mouse or keyboard. Using computer vision and gesture recognition, the system can perform actions like next slide, pause, confirm, scroll, start/stop, and open websites all hands-free.
It aims to make human-computer interaction safer, faster, and more hygienic in real-world environments.

I built this project because many environments like hospitals, factories, and labs require hands-free operation for safety and hygiene. Touching surfaces constantly can cause contamination, slow down work, or be inconvenient when wearing gloves.
I wanted to create a system that solves this problem using affordable technology like OpenCV and gesture detection.
The goal was to show how AI + computer vision can remove physical barriers and make technology more accessible to everyone.

This system helps people in multiple real-world situations:

1. Hospitals & Doctors

Doctors can change slides, view reports, or control devices without touching anything reducing infection risk.

2. Factory Workers

Workers with dirty, oily, or gloved hands can start/stop machines or navigate screens safely.

3. Lab Technicians

Prevents contamination when handling chemicals or sensitive lab equipment.

4. Disabled / Physically Challenged Users

People with mobility limitations can control computers with simple hand movements.

5. Public Kiosks / ATMs

Hands-free interaction improves hygiene and reduces the need to touch public screens.
