VayuMitra — Delhi Air Quality & Public Health Companion

Purpose

VayuMitra is an intelligent air quality companion designed for Delhi that transforms raw Air Quality Index (AQI) data into actionable public health guidance. Instead of simply displaying an AQI value, it explains what the air quality means for people's health and provides practical recommendations to help them stay safe.

Technology Stack

Frontend

A modern React-based dashboard built with Vite, Tailwind CSS, Radix UI, Framer Motion, and Recharts. The interface provides:

• A live AQI overview with current air quality conditions.

• Per-pollutant analysis with trend visualization.

• Short-term air quality forecasts.

• Current GRAP status.

• Location search and automatic geolocation for hyperlocal monitoring.

Backend

An Express API running on Bun with Prisma, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch. The backend:

• Fetches live air quality data from WAQI.

• Retrieves weather information from Open-Meteo.

• Periodically refreshes AQI data through scheduled jobs.

• Computes AQI using CPCB methodology.

• Exposes APIs for current conditions, nearest monitoring stations, forecasts, and location search.

Core Features

1. Real-Time Hyperlocal AQI
   Provides accurate air quality readings based on monitoring stations or the user's nearest location.

2. Actionable Health Advisories
   Maps AQI values to CPCB air quality categories and generates clear, easy-to-understand health recommendations for the public.

3. GRAP Awareness
   Automatically determines the applicable GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan) stage (I–IV) using the official CPCB trigger thresholds (201, 301, 401, and 451 AQI), helping users understand the current level of pollution control measures.

4. Air Quality Forecasting
   Delivers short-term AQI forecasts, enabling users to plan outdoor activities and reduce exposure during periods of poor air quality.

Sanjeevani — Health Companion

Sanjeevani complements VayuMitra by providing a conversational health assistant with speech input capabilities. While VayuMitra focuses on monitoring air quality and delivering data-driven advisories, Sanjeevani enables users to discuss symptoms, ask health-related questions, and receive personalized guidance based on current environmental conditions. Together, they create a comprehensive platform that combines real-time environmental intelligence with accessible health support.
