Responsible Disclosure - Why and How of Paid Ticketing
Why Some of Our Events Are Paid - A Note from GDG New Delhi
GDG New Delhi is a non-profit community backed by Google. We don't run events to make money — we run them to bring people together and help each other learn. So when you see a paid ticket for one of our events, we want to be completely transparent about why, and where that money goes.
Why we charge for some events
For events meant for working professionals, we've noticed a pattern: when registration is free, a lot of people sign up, but very few actually show up on the day. Our speakers put in real time and effort to prepare great sessions, and when attendance is low, all that preparation goes to waste.
We've found that a paid ticket genuinely helps. People who pay are far more likely to actually attend — though even then, some drop-offs do happen, and that's okay.
To be clear: we don't want to charge you, and we're not doing this to earn from it. We're doing it so that the effort our speakers and volunteers put in doesn't go to waste, and so we can plan better for the people who do turn up.
Where your money goes
This is the simple part: almost all of the ticket money goes right back into the event — towards things like food and goodies for everyone who attends, and venue rent when the event needs a paid space.
If there's anything left over after that, it's carried forward and used to support future events. No organizer or volunteer uses this money for personal benefit, ever. We're all here as volunteers, just like you're here to learn.
In short
- We charge a fee only to make sure people who register actually show up.
- Every rupee collected goes back into making the event better — food, goodies, venue costs, and future meetups.
- Nobody personally profits from ticket sales. We're a community, and we treat your trust seriously.
If you have any questions about this, feel free to reach out to us — we're happy to talk about it openly.
