Details
Hacktoberfest encourages developers to participate and work on the open-source software in the month of October. This is the avenue wherein devs can pick and choose the open-source they want to contribute to on GitHub and submit PR’s that would affect the open-source project in a meaningful way. It could be as simple as authoring a README file on the open-source projects that one used earlier and struggled with while working with it. This can be considered the time where one takes time and gives back something meaningful to the Open Source community. Additional information on the details of what is the Hacktoberfest Challenge can be got from https://hacktoberfest.com/
AN INITIAL LIST OF WHAT WE WILL BE WORKING ON?
We are composing a list of open source projects that we intend to share. This list is foundationally based on our personal/professional interests and the impact it would have on the open-source community at large. Please feel free to add/indicate other projects in the open-source arena that we all as a community could contribute to. We can then start to organize ourselves into smaller groups (or pairs) organically based on where individuals would like to contribute.
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO PARTICIPATE AND COMPLETE HACKTOBERFEST:
- First, sign up on the Hacktoberfest site at hacktoberfest.com anytime between September 26 and October 31
- Pull requests can be made in any GITHUB or GITLAB hosted project that’s participating in Hacktoberfest (look for the “hacktoberfest” topic)
- Project maintainers must accept your pull/merge requests for them to count toward your total
- Have 4 pull/merge requests accepted between October 1 and October 31 to complete Hacktoberfest
- The first 40,000 participants (maintainers and contributors) who complete Hacktoberfest can elect to receive one of two prizes: a tree planted in their name, or the Hacktoberfest 2022 t-shirt.
