Hashing is mapping the data to some expected integer value using the concept of hashing algorithms. In Java, a hash code is an integer value linked with each object. Hashing finds its data structure implementation in HashTables and HashMaps.

In hashing, the idea is to use a hash function that converts a given key to a smaller number and uses the minor number as an index in a hash table.
